L-G visits Chader Trek registration centre, highlights need for improved amenities

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd), visited the Chader Trek Registration Centre and Tourist Information Center in Leh on January 16 to review the ongoing Chader Trek and assess the facilities available for tourists.

The Secretary of Tourism, Vikram Singh Malik; Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh, Ghulam Mohd; Assistant Director of Tourism Leh, Padma Angmo, along with other tourism officials and stakeholders, accompanied the Lieutenant Governor during the visit.

During the inspection, the Lieutenant Governor expressed dissatisfaction with the non-functional bathrooms and toilets, as well as the lack of essential amenities. He highlighted the absence of visible signboards and critical information for tourists, emphasizing their importance for ensuring convenience and safety.

The Lieutenant Governor reviewed the emergency facilities, including oxygen supplies, beds, and other infrastructure for trekkers. Disappointed with the current conditions, he directed the Assistant Director of Tourism, Leh, to expedite the provision of necessary infrastructure and ensure that tourist information is readily accessible.

As a temporary measure, the Lieutenant Governor instructed that prefabricated toilet facilities be installed until the existing bathrooms and toilets are fully operational.

He underscored the need to maintain high standards of service and infrastructure to enhance the overall experience and safety of tourists visiting the region.
