NTPC Senior National Archery selection trial 2025 held in Kargil
The Archery Association of UT Ladakh successfully conducted the NTPC Senior National Archery Selection Trial 2025 at Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium, Biamathang on November 28, offering a crucial platform for Ladakhi archers vying for selection to the upcoming National Senior Archery Championship in Telangana. The event marked a major stride in strengthening competitive archery across the Union Territory.
Speaking on the occasion, Skarma Tsering Delex from the Archery Association of Ladakh recalled the history of archery development in the region, highlighting initiatives undertaken since 1986 when special coaching programmes in Delhi first opened avenues for Ladakhi archers to compete at higher levels. He expressed hope that the current selection trials would revive that momentum and noted that the Association’s affiliation three years ago has enabled structured trials and UT-level representation after years of persistent effort.
Acting CEC Kacho Mohd Feroz emphasized that Ladakh’s strength lies in both traditional and modern sports—especially ice hockey, horse polo, and archery—which are deeply rooted in the region’s cultural heritage. He reiterated the Council’s commitment to strengthening these sports through better policies, enhanced infrastructure, and coordinated support. Assuring the archery community that longstanding issues such as land allotment for archery facilities would soon be resolved, he appreciated the Association for organizing the event despite constraints and assured continued support from LAHDC Kargil to help Ladakhi athletes excel at national and international platforms.
DC Rakesh Kumar (IAS) praised the organizers for conducting the trials successfully despite financial and logistical challenges. He noted that the administration aims to develop Ladakh into a multi-sport centre of excellence and stressed the importance of conducting regular archery events at district and subdivision levels to identify and nurture grassroots talent. He added that district-level planning for upcoming archery tournaments is underway and expressed confidence that Ladakhi archers will soon shine at the national stage.
Joint Director Tahir Hussain Zabdavi highlighted the cultural significance of archery, horse riding, polo, and swimming in Ladakh’s heritage. He informed that 37 players participated in this year's trial and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to providing consistent training and improved facilities. He added that land identification for sports infrastructure in both districts is in progress and assured full support from the Youth Services & Sports Department. He also announced that a UT-level archery competition will be organized before March.
Kacho Shamim presented mementos to the dignitaries. He emphasized the message: “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life,” highlighting the vital role of sports in shaping a healthy and disciplined youth community.
