Ladakh Scouts and LWIHF dominate 18th CEC Cup Ice Hockey Championship
The 18th CEC Cup Ice Hockey Championship (Women & Men) 2024-25 concluded with two thrilling finals at the Ice Hockey Rink, NDS Sports Complex, Leh, on January 2 and 3. The event was organised by the Department of Youth Services & Sports, LAHDC Leh, in collaboration with the Ladakh Winter Sports Club Leh.
In the women’s final on January 2, Ladakh Women Ice Hockey Foundation (LWIHF) defeated ITBP in a penalty shootout.
The Chief Guest for the women’s final, Executive Councillor (Minority/Forest) Ghulam Mehdi, congratulated LWIHF on their victory and commended ITBP for their outstanding performance. He highlighted the significant upgrades to ice hockey infrastructure, noting that these improvements provide better opportunities for local athletes to excel at national and international levels.
“LAHDC Leh remains committed to further enhancing sports facilities and creating more pathways for our youth to shine in winter sports,” he added.
Dignitaries present at the women’s final included nominated Councillor Ven. Konchok Tsepel, JD Youth Services and Sports Moses Kunzang, and other officials.
The men’s final, held on January 3, saw Ladakh Scouts claim victory over ITBP in a high-energy match.
Deputy Chairman of LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk, served as the Chief Guest for the men’s final. He praised both teams for their outstanding performances and highlighted the immense progress made by Ladakhi athletes in ice hockey. He acknowledged the efforts of the Hill Council and the Ladakh Administration in nurturing local talent through improved infrastructure and initiatives like Khelo India.
“These advancements are pivotal for the development of ice hockey in Ladakh and for providing young athletes the platforms they need to compete at higher levels,” he stated.
The guest of honor for the men’s final was Vikram Singh Malik, IAS, Administrative Secretary of Youth Services and Sports. Other notable attendees included former CEC Gyal P. Wangyal, Councillors, ADDC Leh Sonam Nurboo, Additional SP Leh Rigzen Sangdup, DIG ITBP, Tsering Tashi (District Youth and Sports Officer), and other officials.
A prize distribution ceremony followed both finals, celebrating the exceptional performances of the winners and runners-up.
