Khelo India State Centre of Excellence to be established in Ladakh
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has approved the proposal of the Department of Youth Services & Sports, UT Ladakh, for the establishment of Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) in the Sports viz, Athletics, Boxing and Archery discipline on October 17.
The newly constructed open stadium at Spituk, Leh has been identified as the venue for the establishment of the Excellence Centre after a Technical Evaluation by an expert committee. The Centre shall have all the required technical manpower like a High-Performance Director, Head coaches, Assistant coach, Physiologist, Nutritionist, Masseur, Sports Injury Management team, Yoga instructor, Physiotherapist, conditioning experts, and Sports Science equipment. The total cost of funding sanctioned is ₹3.139 crores for the 2023-24 financial year and ₹ 1.195 crores for the subsequent years.
A MoU between SAI & Department of Youth Services and Sports is to be signed soon along with an Advertisement for the various posts and procurement of sports items. Moreover, the establishment of KISCE, for the first time is the latest approach towards the development of Sports and shall serve as a platform for the young emerging talents to excel in the field of Sports.
A selection trial is to be conducted for enrolling in the KISCE. Apart from the KISCE, Khelo India Centre for ice hockey, archery, athletics, table tennis, and football has already been sanctioned and functional at various centres across Ladakh.
