ITBP Indus Ice Hockey challenge 2025 kicks off in Chushul

The inaugural ITBP Indus Ice Hockey Challenge 2025 commenced in Chushul, Ladakh, uniting teams from eight villages in a spirited competition. Organized by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the tournament aims to foster unity and encourage youth participation in the rapidly growing sport of ice hockey.

The event was formally inaugurated by Dr. Akun Sabharwal, IPS, Inspector General, ITBP, in the presence of senior Army officers, local administration officials, village heads (Nambardars), and religious leaders. Their participation highlighted a collective commitment to strengthening Ladakh’s sports culture and community bonds.

Scheduled from February 12 to 15, the tournament will feature high-energy matches played on the frozen expanse of Chushul. Ice hockey, deeply embedded in Ladakh’s sporting culture, has witnessed growing enthusiasm, particularly among the youth. This initiative by ITBP seeks to nurture local talent, provide a competitive platform for young players, and celebrate the region’s sporting spirit.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Akun Sabharwal emphasized the tournament’s role in engaging youth and promoting excellence in ice hockey. He reiterated ITBP’s commitment to community development and sports promotion in high-altitude regions.
