A delegation of the Indian men’s ice hockey team, predominantly comprising players from Ladakh and led by Tsewang Gyaltsan, met the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), on January 10 at the LG Secretariat. The delegation sought the LG’s intervention in facilitating the team's participation in the 9th Asian Winter Games, scheduled to be held in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China, from February 7 to 14, 2025.

Advisor to the LG, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS, and Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, Vikram Singh Malik, IAS, were also present during the meeting.
Tsewang Gyaltsan informed the LG about the Ministry of Youth Services and Sports' decision not to send the Indian men’s ice hockey team to the games. He emphasized that the team had been rigorously preparing for this event and highlighted the potential setback for the players, most of whom hail from Ladakh, where the sport is played at altitudes exceeding 11,000 feet.

The Lieutenant Governor assured the delegation of his support and, after discussions with the Union Minister of Youth Services and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, pledged to make all possible efforts to ensure the team's participation in the Asian Winter Games. LG Mishra emphasized the importance of such opportunities for Ladakhi youth, both for their development and for showcasing their talent on an international stage.

The delegation expressed gratitude to the LG for his commitment and hoped for a positive resolution to enable the team’s representation at the prestigious event.
