Executive Councillors discuss specialized Paralympic training initiative
Executive Councillors Stanzin Chosphel and Ghulam Mehdi chaired a significant meeting to discuss the upcoming specialized training initiative under the 2028 Paralympic Mission.
This initiative aims to equip athletes with disabilities for international competitions, including the prestigious Paralympic Games. The renowned Aditya Mehta Foundation will conduct the training, which is dedicated to providing world-class coaching and resources to help these athletes reach their full potential.
Asha Shaikh, a physiotherapist and medical classifier, joined the meeting online and provided a comprehensive briefing for parents and participants. She outlined the assessment process, including eligibility criteria, IQ tests, and other necessary evaluations to ensure athletes meet the program's standards.
Five students, accompanied by two parents and one escort, have been selected for this initiative. They will depart on January 12, 2025, to begin their specialized training.
The Executive Councillors extended their best wishes to the athletes and their families, reaffirming their commitment to supporting athletes with disabilities and ensuring access to the resources needed to excel on the global stage.
The meeting was attended by the Youth Services and Sports Officer, physical education teachers, and parents of the selected students.
