CEC Tashi Gyalson felicitates Ladakh’s Ice Hockey team for Asian Winter Games debut

Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson met with the Indian men’s ice hockey team on March 12 upon their return from Harbin, China, after competing in the 9th Asian Winter Games.
CEC Gyalson extended his heartfelt congratulations to the team, recognizing the significance of their achievement. He felicitated each player and wished them success in their future endeavors.
Making their debut in the prestigious tournament, the Indian men’s ice hockey team from Ladakh secured a historic victory against Macau, China, showcasing remarkable skill and determination.
"Ladakh’s ice hockey players have once again made us proud on the international stage. Competing and winning at the Asian Winter Games is a monumental achievement. The Council has always supported the development of ice hockey in Ladakh, from providing infrastructure and equipment to offering incentives for our players," said CEC Gyalson.
The CEC also highlighted ongoing efforts to bring national recognition to the sport and emphasized ice hockey’s potential in promoting sports tourism in Ladakh. He assured that the Council would continue to provide all necessary support to take the sport forward.
As a token of appreciation, a cash reward of ₹2,50,000 has been announced for the team.
CEC Gyalson also acknowledged the crucial role of Lieutenant Governor Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) in ensuring the team’s participation in the Asian Winter Games. He highlighted the LG’s personal efforts and financial assistance, along with the support of the UT administration, which played a vital role in facilitating the team’s journey to Harbin.
“Our players have showcased exceptional talent and resilience, bringing pride to Ladakh and inspiring many along the way. We will continue to strengthen the sports ecosystem in our region and ensure that ice hockey gets the recognition it deserves at the national level.”
The achievement marks a significant milestone for Ladakh’s sporting community, further solidifying the region’s reputation in winter sports.
