Army launches White Water Rafting expedition in tribute to Kargil heroes

As a homage and tribute to the indomitable courage and unparalleled gallant acts of Kargil War Heroes, a White Water Rafting team from the Regiment of Artillery and Army Adventure Wing, comprising four officers and sixty other ranks, will embrace the chilling and challenging water currents of the Indus, Zanskar, and Shyok rivers in the rarefied region of Ladakh.

The expedition was flagged off by Lieutenant General Hitesh Bhalla SC**, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps, who dedicated this team effort in remembrance of the fallen heroes of Kargil. The White Water Rafting Expedition will physically commence on July 21, 2024, at Nyoma, Eastern Ladakh on the Indus River. It will cover a total distance of 645 km, with 260 km on the Indus River, 165 km on the Zanskar River, and 220 km on the Shyok River. The expedition will culminate at Tyakshi, Nubra Valley on the Shyok River on August 15, 2024.

The White Water Rafting team, led by Lieutenant Colonel B N Jha, will feature highly skilled and trained Gunner Rafters from the Fire and Fury Corps and Army Adventure Wing. The Gunner Rafters will honor and commemorate the ultimate sacrifice of the gallant bravehearts of the Kargil War by displaying unwavering courage and resilience while navigating through the high currents and dangerous rapids of three mighty rivers of Ladakh.

The twenty-four-day-long White Water Rafting Expedition stands as a testament and symbol of the soldiers' commitment to maintaining the highest standards of readiness and valor. The event will also promote the spirit of adventure sports among the countrymen and troops, fostering camaraderie and esprit de corps.
