Yoga Mahakumbh begins in Leh as 100-Day countdown to IDY 2025 kicks off

As part of the 100-day countdown to the 10th International Day of Yoga, a special event was held at Mahabodhi Buddha Park, Saboo, Leh. The occasion also marked the beginning of what is being envisioned as a “Mahakumbh of Yoga,” drawing a large gathering of yoga enthusiasts, students, and local residents.
Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, attended the event along with Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena and other prominent figures from the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Speaking at the event, CEC Gyalson highlighted yoga as a powerful practice that brings harmony to the mind, body, and soul. He encouraged everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily routine to maintain physical and mental well-being.
“Yoga has been practised for over 5,000 years and remains a timeless path to wellness. Its global importance has been recognised by the United Nations, which has adopted it as part of a worldwide initiative for good health,” he said.
He also spoke about Ladakh’s potential to become a global hub for spiritual learning and yoga. “LAHDC Leh will continue to support the initiatives of MIMC under the guidance of Ven. Sanghasena, who has devoted his life to service, compassion, and humanitarian work,” he added.
Looking ahead to the 10th International Day of Yoga on June 21, the CEC shared that a formal invitation has been extended to the Prime Minister to attend the celebration in Leh, expressing hope that he will be able to participate.
