World Water Day: KVK, Leh organizes discussion on water scarcity, conservation
Celebrating World Water Day, Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh, SKUAST-K organised a brainstorming session on the topic ‘Water: Scarcity and Conservation’ on March 22 at the Training Hall, Stakna.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. Feroz Din Sheikh, Programme Coordinator, KVK-Leh. Discussion was held on various issues related to water scarcity across the globe. water conservation and management practices.
Different Subject Matter Specialists of KVK-Leh, Deachan Angmo, Principal ‘Siddhartha Public School; Rigzin Tsering, Teacher cum Progressive farmer, and about 31 students of the Siddhartha Public School deliberated upon scarcity and management of water.
Dr. Vikas Gupta, Plant Pathologist at KVK-Leh briefed the participants about the importance of World Water day all across the globe.
Dr. Parveen Kumar SMS Ag. Extension discussed the various causes leading to water scarcity and how each one of us can contribute to water conservation by taking small simple measures at our schools, home, and at our workplace. Dr. Kunzang Lamo, Vegetable specialist spoke about the status of water availability in the cold arid region of Ladakh and various measures by which water can be conserved and efficiently used in agriculture.
Principal, Siddhartha Public School highlighted the importance of water in our daily day-to-day life and the consequences one has to face in a world scarce of water.
A debate, as well as a quiz competition, was also organised for the students. Padma Angmo, Tsewang Lamo, and Thinley Angmo students of the 10th class of the school bagged first, second and third prizes in a debate competition. Similarly in the Quiz competition, Tsewang Lamo and Eolzes Dolkar got first and second prizes whereas the third prize was shared by Lobzang Stanzin, Chuskit Dolma, and Nima Lamo.
Students also put forward their views regarding diverse topics that include water conservation, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
