An awareness program, ‘Stride for Snow Leopard’, aimed at fostering international cooperation for the conservation of snow leopards, commenced with a remarkable run from Zanskar Chumik to Govt Degree College, Nubra on World Environment Day.
 
The program was organised by GDC Nubra in collaboration with Govt Higher Secondary School, Disket, Nature Conservation Foundation (NCF), and Snow Leopard Trust with the support from Police and Medical Department.  
 
Principal GDC Nubra Dr. Tsewang Motup emphasized the significance of conserving nature and highlighted the importance of protecting the snow leopard. Recognizing the critical role that snow leopards play in maintaining the ecological balance of their habitats, he urged everyone to join hands and take proactive measures to safeguard these majestic creatures.
 
 Stride for Snow Leopard serves as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of protecting snow leopards and their habitats, fostering international cooperation in their conservation. By uniting individuals, communities, and organizations, this program aims to create a collective voice for the preservation of these magnificent creatures and the fragile ecosystems they call home.
 
The event brought together students from Govt Higher Secondary School Disket, GDC Nubra, and dedicated staff members from the college. 
 
Assistant Professor Dr. Stanzin Namgail, delivered an engaging presentation on snow leopards, enlightening the audience about their habitat, behavior, and life cycle. His insightful session shed light on the challenges faced by these elusive felines and the urgent need for concerted efforts to protect their habitats and conserve their populations.
 
Karma Sonam from the Nature Conservation Foundation (NCF) shared valuable insights on the ongoing conservation activities in Ladakh. He outlined the various initiatives undertaken to safeguard snow leopards and their ecosystems, highlighting the collaborative approach involving local communities, governmental agencies, and conservation organisations.
 
Physical Education Lecturer Jigmet Stanzin extended gratitude to NCF/SLT for coordinating such an event, which is the need of the hour to spread awareness for the conservation of nature and distinctive wildlife creatures in Ladakh. 
 
In the boy’s category, Pemba Gyalpo (GHSS) secured 1st position, Mohd Ali (GDC Nobra) 2nd, and Urgain Dawa (GHSS) 3rd position. Meanwhile, in the girl’s category, Zatsal Dolkar (GHSS) bagged 1st position, Jigmat Laskit Wangmo (GHSS) 2nd, and Thinless Youdon (HSS) 3rd position. In the staff category, Dr. Stanzin Namgail secured 1st position, Mohd. Issaq 2nd and Dr. Azhar Hussain 3rd position.
