Women’s day marked by mass participation sports event in Kargil
International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Astro Turf Football Ground, Kargil on March 8 with a mass participation sports event aimed at encouraging women and girls to actively engage in sports and physical fitness.
The event was jointly organised by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Kargil as part of a nationwide initiative to promote women’s participation in sports.
ASP Kacho Istayak graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Rinchen Dolkar attended the programme as the Guest of Honour. They appreciated the initiative and highlighted the importance of sports in empowering women and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 200 girls who actively took part in various activities organised on the occasion, with a large gathering present to cheer and encourage the participants. The competitive athletics events included 100 metres, 200 metres, and 400 metres races conducted in different age categories — under 13 years, 13–18 years, and above 18 years.
In addition to the competitive races, several fun activities were also organised to make the celebration more engaging and inclusive.
At the conclusion of the event, certificates and medals were distributed to participants in recognition of their participation and sporting spirit.
The programme concluded with a Swachhta (cleanliness) initiative at the Astro Turf Football Ground, where participants and organisers collectively cleaned the venue and spread awareness about maintaining cleanliness.
