Wildlife Division Kargil observes International Snow Leopard Day
Wildlife Division Kargil in collaboration with the Department of Zoology, Government Degree College, Kargil observed International Snow Leopard Day on October 23.
ADC Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Wani was the chief guest, while incharge Principal GDC, Kargil, and faculty members were also present.
Wildlife Warden Kargil, Raza Ali Abidi said that the day was aimed to show the importance of snow leopard conservation and raise awareness about this incredible animal.
He emphasized the importance of taking measures to take conservation measures, as well as consolidating efforts in terms of an environmental collaboration of different organizations to achieve goals of conservation. He also thanked the students for their participation in the program.
HoD Zoology, Dr Akbar Khan gave a detailed presentation on snow leopards and how conservation activities are carried out in the snow leopard range areas of the world and in the context of Ladakh.
Later, a short documentary was screened for the audience. The teaching faculty and the students participated in the event. Earlier, a painting competition was held and certificates were given to participants and position holders.
During the program, a signature pledge was taken by the participants to conserve and save snow leopard.
The Wildlife Department also conducted a training workshop for the women folks in Drass. They were trained in making different types of handicraft items including felted toys. The program was conducted in collaboration with the Himalayan Brown Bear Trust, Snow Leopard Trust, and Wildlife Department.
