UT Ladakh launches month-long Clean India Prorgamme
Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Ravinder Kumar flagged off the month-long ‘Clean India Programme’ on October 2 from SNM Hospital, Leh.
The cleanliness drive will be held from October 1 to 31 and is a part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. UT Administration will hold the cleanliness drive in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra. Executive Officer, MC Leh, Stanzin Rabgais and Assistant Commissioner Development, Leh, Sonam Nurbu, have been appointed as nodal officers for the smooth conduct of the campaign in 16 blocks of Leh district.
The cleanliness drive aims to collect and dispose of waste, especially single-use plastic and make the programme a people’s movement through Jan Bhagidari. Its objective is also to propagate the mantra of ‘Clean India Green India’. The month-long campaign includes plogging run, cleaning of religious places, stadium and playgrounds, the graveyard in Leh, schools, police stations and their surrounding area, panchayat institutions, NGO’s offices, the Deputy Commissioner’s office, business establishments, Wetland Hokersar Wildlife and Forest, Doordarshan Leh and All India Radio Leh premises, telecom portal officials, public service offices and NYKS office.
It may be mentioned that Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur launched the month-long Clean India Programme from Prayagraj. The cleanliness drive aims to create awareness, mobilise people and ensure their involvement in cleaning waste, especially single-use plastic waste throughout the country.
The programme is being organised in six lakh villages of 744 districts across the country.
