UT Administration allows sale of poultry products in Ladakh
UT Administration has allowed the sale of poultry products and issued an order not to impose a ban on poultry products sourced from non-infected areas/states.
As per the second advisory/information issued by Ravinder Kumar, Secretary, Animal/Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Department on January 19, the UT Administration has directed the District Administration (Leh/Kargil) and Directorate of Animal Husbandry, UT Ladakh, to keep continuous monitoring and surveillance on the situation from time to time.
Keeping in view the outbreak of Avian influenza in neighbouring states of UT Ladakh, the Administration had notified a ban on the import of live birds, including poultry and unprocessed poultry meat for any purpose, into UT Ladakh. The UT Administration in the advisory, says that a ban should be imposed only within a radius of 10 km of the infected zone.
The advisory was issued in the wake of the absence of any report of human infection due to consumption of poultry products such as egg and chicken. The advisory further says that there has been no scientific report all over the globe that the infection of H5N1 or any other strain of Avian Influenza viruses spread through processed products.
