In a significant relief for aspiring Medical Officers from Ladakh, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will conduct interviews for provisionally shortlisted candidates for 125 posts of Medical Officers in Leh from September 21 to 25, 2026, as a special case.

The decision follows a request made by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, who, in a letter dated July 13, 2026, urged the Chairman of the UPSC to conduct the interviews in Leh instead of requiring candidates to travel to the UPSC office in Delhi.

The move is expected to provide significant relief to candidates appearing for interviews for the gazetted posts of Medical Officers in the Health and Medical Education Department, Union Territory of Ladakh.

Responding positively to the Lieutenant Governor's request, the UPSC informed that it would constitute two parallel Interview Boards, each comprising one President and two Advisors. In addition, five UPSC officials and staff members will be deputed to facilitate and manage the interview process.

The UPSC has requested the UT Administration to make the necessary logistical arrangements for the conduct of the interviews, including a suitable venue with rooms for the Interview Boards and office space, a waiting area or auditorium for candidates, facilities for document verification, a frisking area, reception facilities and stable internet connectivity for face authentication.

The decision is expected to make the recruitment process more accessible and convenient for candidates from Ladakh. Travelling to Delhi for interviews often involves considerable expenditure on airfare, accommodation, local transportation and other related expenses, besides the logistical challenges associated with travelling outside the UT.

Conducting the interviews in Leh will significantly reduce the financial and logistical burden on candidates and enable them to participate in the recruitment process more conveniently.

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena thanked the UPSC for acceding to his request, stating that the decision would ensure candidates from Ladakh are able to compete on an equal footing without having to bear the additional financial burden of travelling to Delhi.

“This is an important step towards bringing recruitment opportunities and government processes closer to our people,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
