Union Minister Kiren Rijiju launches L-G Mishra’s book on Sri Lankan conflict

The book ‘Battles Against Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (L.T.T.E.) in Sri Lanka’, authored by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), was officially released by Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, on December 11 in New Delhi.

The 320-page book, published by Prabhat Prakashan, documents the author’s experiences and insights during his time as part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) in Sri Lanka.

The release event was attended by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, as well as First Lady Neelam Mishra, among other dignitaries.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju congratulated the Lieutenant Governor for authoring a significant and long-awaited book. He described it as a work born of duty and passion, calling it “a must-read” for those seeking to understand the events and sacrifices associated with the LTTE conflict in Sri Lanka.

The Minister also paid heartfelt tributes to the soldiers who made supreme sacrifices during the mission. He emphasized the importance of remembering the contributions and sacrifices of the Indian Army jawans and saluted Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) for his leadership and dedication.

Speaking at the occasion, Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) shared that the idea for the book emerged from a desire to honor the soldiers who fought valiantly under his command during the IPKF mission. He highlighted that the book is dedicated to these brave soldiers and their families, who endured the pain of separation and loss with courage and dignity.

The Lieutenant Governor noted that many soldiers did not return from the battlefield, sacrificing their lives for the mission. He expressed hope that the book would serve as a tribute to their unwavering commitment and bravery.

The book offers a firsthand account of the induction of Brigadier Mishra’s brigade into Sri Lanka on October 11, 1987, as part of the IPKF. It details the brigade’s experiences and fierce battles against the LTTE, providing valuable historical insights and personal reflections from the author.
