Training held on ‘Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act’ in Sakti
Scientists of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra SKUAST-K Leh imparted farmers about the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act- PPV&FRA (2001) during the one-day training cum awareness programme on February 5.
Around 165 farmers participated in the training cum awareness programme and Gyal P Wangyal, Dy. Chairman was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Dr. Dorjay Namgyal, Prof & Head informed the farmers about PPV&FRA and spoke on the mandate and activities of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra. He asked the farmers to visit various demonstration units especially protected cultivation at KVK Stakna.
Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act objective is to establish an effective system for the protection of plant varieties, the right of farmers and plant breeders and to encourage the development of new varieties of plants. To recognize and protect the right of farmers in respect of their contribution made at any time in conserving, improving and making available plant genetic resources for the development of new plant varieties. To accelerate agricultural development in the country, protect plant breeders’ right to stimulate investment for research development of new plant varieties. To facilitate the growth of the seed industry in the country, ensuring the availability of high-quality seeds and planting material to the farmers.
Gyal P Wangyal thanked KVK for conducting the awareness camps and urged farmers to follow the guidance of scientists for acquiring better quality and yield in agriculture.
The farmers were provided with a handy folder containing details of PPV&FRA (2001) and also fruitful interaction with the scientists.
