Tower installation dispute resolved in Zanskar, power project gets fresh push
Executive Councillor for RDD, Forest and Information, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Zanskar Omkar Rajendra Gundage (IAS), Councillor Stanzin Jigmath, Superintendent of Police Rigzin Sangdup (JKPAS), Tehsildar Zanskar Mohd Hassan, and officials of REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), visited the disputed sites at Shagar Yokma and Markim concerning the installation of Tower Nos. 2196 to 2199 and 2204 to 2205 under the 220 kV Drass–Padum Transmission Line.
During the visit, the team held discussions with the affected villagers and successfully resolved the long-pending dispute. The Deputy Commissioner addressed the concerns and apprehensions raised by the local residents, paving the way for the resumption of work.
The executing agencies were directed to immediately begin the pending work and expedite the erection of the transmission towers to ensure the timely completion of the strategically important power transmission project.
The delegation also inspected the ongoing renovation work at the Haftal Power Project. Engineers informed the visiting officials that the remaining work is expected to be completed within ten days. The authorities directed the executing agency to ensure the early restoration of a reliable electricity supply to the people of Zanskar.
