The Healthy Lifestyle and Balanced Diet Committee of Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar organised an awareness programme on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and balanced dietary habits at the college conference hall on June 10.

The programme was conducted under the guidance and supervision of the Principal, Dr. Amjad Ali Abbasi, who has consistently encouraged initiatives aimed at promoting the health and well-being of students and staff.

In his address, Dr. Abbasi emphasized the importance of adopting healthy dietary practices and urged students to avoid excessive consumption of junk food and unhealthy eating habits. He highlighted that a balanced diet is essential for maintaining good health, preventing diseases, and enhancing both academic performance and overall well-being.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Mohd Hussain, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, who also addressed the gathering. He elaborated on the close relationship between diet and disease, explaining that many non-communicable diseases such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disorders are directly linked to unhealthy dietary habits and sedentary lifestyles.

Dr. Hussain stressed the importance of consuming nutritious and balanced meals rich in essential nutrients to strengthen immunity and prevent lifestyle-related ailments. He encouraged students to adopt healthy eating habits as a long-term investment in their physical and mental health.

On the occasion, Hussain Ali, Director of Physical Education, delivered an informative PowerPoint presentation highlighting the significance of regular physical exercise in maintaining good health and preventing lifestyle-related diseases. He explained that physical activity plays a vital role in improving physical fitness, mental health, and overall quality of life.

He further emphasized that balanced nutrition, combined with regular exercise, forms the foundation of a healthy body and mind. Encouraging participants to make informed lifestyle choices, he stressed the need to adopt healthy habits to ensure long-term physical, mental, and social well-being.

The programme concluded with an interactive session in which students and faculty members actively participated and shared their views on healthy living, dietary awareness, and disease prevention.

The event successfully created awareness about the importance of balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and healthy lifestyle practices, reinforcing the college’s commitment to promoting health and wellness among its students.
