Student delegation from University of Ladakh meets L-G Mathur Highlights issues faced by the students
President, Student Union, University of Ladakh, Nawang Tsondus, and Designer Tashi Dorje met Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur on February 8 at Raj Niwas.
Nawang Tsondus briefed LG Mathur of the issues faced by the students at University of Ladakh including discontinuation of studies due to sudden resignation of contractual teachers, non-issuance of migration certificate by University of Kashmir to students who passed out from Degree Colleges in Ladakh, lack of buses to ferry students, the need to introduce new courses such as Public Administration and Fine Arts, inadequate books at the library, personality development training programme, introducing BEd as a distance education course, upgrading the infrastructure such as toilets and girls’ hostel and smart classrooms.
Later, designer Tashi Dorje gave a detailed PPT presentation to LG Mathur on the need for a core design team in Ladakh. He briefed LG Mathur about the need to safeguard traditional crafts and bridge the gap between traditional and new-age technologies.
LG Mathur stated that the focus should be on fulfilling the potential of agriculture, handloom/handicraft sectors as there is a lot of scope and opportunities in these sectors. Stating that a comprehensive solution is needed, he said that the right technology, social mobilisation, training, producing good quality products in bulk and at nominal cost is required to promote handicraft/handloom products from Ladakh.
