Sowa-Rigpa Institute celebrates World Environment Day with mass plantation drive in Leh

The National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa in Leh marked the culmination of its weeklong run-up program under Mission Life with a grand celebration of World Environment Day on June 5. The event featured a mass plantation drive at the Trans Himalayan Herbal Garden of the institute.

Director General, Central Council for Research in Homeopathy, Ministry of Ayush, Govt of India, Dr Subash Kaushik was the chief guest on the occasion. 

The World Environment Day celebration began with the planting of a willow tree by Dr. Subash Kaushik and Dr. Padma Gurmet, Director of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Leh. This was followed by the mass plantation of various tree species by the institute's staff and students.

A pledge was also taken by all participants to protect the environment and to motivate citizens to adopt environmentally friendly habits.

Throughout the weeklong event, the institute organized various programs, including an essay competition, a PowerPoint presentation competition for students, training on the cultivation and restoration of plants, and a field visit to the Herbal Garden and plantation drive.

Director of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Dr. Padma Gurmet, presented prizes to the winners of the various events.
