Social Welfare Deptt hands over three-wheeler scooters to specially-abled in Leh Council allocates funds for the specially-abled for the first time

 A total of 14 three-wheeler scooters were handed over to the specially abled people on a day themed “Maximise the strength of your abilities’ on May 17 at Bal Ashram, Leh. The day was organised by District Social Welfare Office, Leh. 
After the key distribution to all the beneficiaries, Dr Dawa , CEC appreciated the efforts made by District Social Welfare Officer, Rigzin Spalgon in providing three wheeler scooters to the specially abled people and benefiting them through various central and state government schemes.

Dr Sonam Dawa, CEC assured support to empower the specially abled people and ensured to look for possible funding from centre and state government in order to empower them.  

He suggested District Social Welfare Officer, Rigzin Spalgon to conduct a driving training for all the beneficiaries and to educate them on traffic and safety rules. He appealed all the beneficiaries to wear the helmet while driving and follow the safety rules on road.    
 Rigzin Spalgon detailed various activities, challenges and achievements of the department over the last two years. He said that prior to this some 12 scooters were also distributed which was successful and this time 14 more such scooters were bought by the department through state government funding. 

He said that the objective is to empower specially abled people in terms of accessibility by making them independent and to improve their lifestyle by providing better facilities. 

Rigzin Spalgon expressed gratitude to the Council for allocating funds for the specially abled people under district plan for the very first time. He said that this will extend great help to the Social Welfare Department and other organisations like MUNSEL, PAGIR, REWA to work in coordination for the upliftment and inclusiveness of special people.

Dr. Tundup Wangial, Dy Director Upshi Farm, Kunzes Angmo, Director ICDS Projects, Padmashree awardee Dr. Tsering Lhadol representing MUNSEL, Mohd Iqbal, President PAGIR and all the beneficiaries were also present.
