Shingkula pass reopens for vehicular movement
Shingkula pass reopened for vehicular movement on April 16.
Director General Border Road Organization (DG BRO) Lt. General Rajiv Chaudhry inaugurated and congratulated the people of Zanskar and Lahul Spiti for reopening the road two months earlier than last year.
He appreciated the BRO teams of 126RCC and project Deepak for their hard work in opening this route in mid-April, which is the shortest route between Manali and Leh.
Lt. General Rajiv Chaudhary said that the Nimo-Padum-Darcha road and the Shingkula Tunnel which will be completed by the end of 2025, will change the economy of Zanskar valley.
He added that as Project Yojak is established only for Nimo-Padum-Darcha road thus 1RCC will be established at Kuru and one at Neraq. The New BRO Task Force and RCC are sanctioned with full equipment, machines and workshops to maintain the machines.
DG BRO advised the representatives of both Zanskar and Dharcha to train their unemployed youths in skilled fields so that BRO can engage them in work instead of preferring outsider labourers.
