Sankoo health department organises awareness programme on adolescent health

An Adolescent Health Education Programme was successfully organised by the Block Medical Officer, Sankoo, at PM SHRI Government Girls High School, Sankoo, on June 20.

The programme aimed to create awareness among students about various aspects of adolescence and guide them towards developing healthy lifestyles and positive attitudes during this important phase of life.

A large number of girl students participated in the awareness programme.

Dr. Rubiya Banoo, Consultant Gynecologist at Community Health Centre (CHC) Sankoo, served as the resource person and sensitised students about the physical, emotional and psychological changes associated with adolescence.

She highlighted the importance of maintaining a balanced diet, regular physical activity and personal hygiene for overall health and well-being. She also conducted an informative session on menstrual hygiene, stressing the importance of proper menstrual practices and dispelling common myths and misconceptions related to menstruation.

Fatima Kaneez, Counsellor at CHC Sankoo, conducted an interactive session on adolescence and mental health. She discussed the emotional and psychological challenges faced by adolescents and emphasised the importance of maintaining good mental health.

The counsellor also addressed issues such as emotional stress, peer pressure, body image concerns and the need for open communication with parents and teachers. She further highlighted the harmful effects of drug addiction and substance abuse, urging students to avoid such practices and make responsible choices in life.

The students actively participated in the sessions and benefited from the valuable information shared by the resource persons.

The organising team expressed gratitude to Dr. Zahida Khatun, Block Medical Officer, Sankoo, and Dr. Rubiya Banoo, Consultant Gynecologist, CHC Sankoo, for their support and cooperation in making the programme successful.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, making it an informative, interactive and beneficial programme for young learners.
