The School of Agriculture, SAS&T, University of Ladakh, Stakna Campus, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nyoma, organized an exposure tour on February 5 under the MIDH project for 22 farmers from Rong villages (Nee, Kesser, Srhayul, Hemya, Liktse, Tukla, and Phulak). The program was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Phuntsog Tundup, Head of KVK Nyoma and Principal Investigator of the project, along with Dr. Sonam Spaldon, Scientist at SAS&T.

The tour aimed to enhance farmers’ understanding of advanced, location-specific agricultural technologies suitable for Ladakh’s high-altitude cold-arid conditions, with a focus on protected cultivation.

Farmers visited the Precision Farming Development Centre (PFDC), where greenhouse structures suited for Ladakh, including low tunnel technology for winter vegetable cultivation, were demonstrated. They also learned about leafy vegetable varieties and crop calendar planning.

The group then visited the Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), where innovative practices such as hydroponics, precision irrigation, and protected cultivation models for cold desert regions were explained.

The farmers also interacted with Yangchan Palajora, a progressive farmer from Saboo village and recipient of the 2025 State Award, Ass Pee LM Patel

Award, and ICAR Award for excellence in agriculture. She shared her experiences and demonstrated successful greenhouse models and high-value crops.

The exposure tour fostered farmer-to-farmer interaction and encouraged the adoption of scientific interventions to boost productivity and income under the MIDH project.
