The restoration of assembly hall (Dukhang), residence of H.E. Bakula Rinpoche (Zimchungs) and the sacred Mandala dedicated to Yamandaka (‘Jigs-byed kyi gLos-bsLangs dkyil-‘khor) in Samkar Gonpa were successfully completed and the new preaching place (Sungchos Rawa) and Nyenas Lhakhang were also completed under the management of Zhungnyer, Lama Lobzang Angchuk, Gey Lobzang Tundup Kharikpa and Gey Thupstan Tsao.
The monks of Samkar, Spituk, Stok and Saboo Gonpa (Chogzhi Gendun) have performed the consecration (Rab-nas) 25th December.
Earlier, the aged old sacred Mandala dedicated to the deity Yamantaka, Conqueror of Death representing his celestial palace in Samkar Gonpa was reinstated by the previous Bakula Rinpoche and Ganden Tri Rinpoche and blessed by many other high Lamas. However, due to the deterioration of the room where it was installed, the Manadala was partly damaged in recent years. Therefore, this time, it was restored and shifted to another room near the main assembly hall and it is being exhibited to the devotees for worship.
According to sources, Samkar Gonpa is more than 200 years old. Earlier, there existed a small temple which was extended and developed during the Bakula Rinpoche of Zangla Khar and the previous Gyalsras Bakula Rinpoche Thupstan Choknor.
The restoration works including stabilizations of buildings and wooden members, new paintings etc. were started in three years back under the supervision of engineers, experts and local painters by keeping the old paintings intact.
During the consecration ceremony, the monks and devotees present on the occasion expressed appreciation and gratitude to Lama Lobzang Angchuk, Gey Lobzang Tundup Kharikpa and Gey Thupstan Tsao for their enormous endeavours in accomplishing the restoration work as well as retrieval and fencing all the lands belongs to the monastery. At the same time, the Gonpa has donated lands to Ama Choskul Tsogspa Yurtung, Ama Tsogspa, Khakshal and Ama Tsogspa, Katpa for religious activities.
The guests present during the consecration ceremony include Dr Zahida Bano, CEO, Tourism Development Authority, XEN PHE, Tehsildar Leh, Tsering Angchuk, Convenor INTACH Leh, Goba - Members of Leh Phumdo and the villagers of Samkar.
