Religious leaders and women representatives share insights on proposed new districts in Ladakh
The New District Committee convened a meeting with heads of various religious organizations and women representatives at the DC Office Conference Hall on November 7. The meeting was chaired by Pramod Kumar Jain, IAS (Retd.), with committee members Kacho Asfandyar Khan, IAS (Retd.), Tsering Angchok, IAS (Retd.), and Deputy Commissioner Leh Santosh Sukhadeve (ex-officio), to assess the proposal for establishing five new districts in Ladakh.
During the meeting, stakeholders presented their views, suggestions, and recommendations to the New District Committee. Key concerns included the allocation of funds, jobs, and land distribution based on population and area. Nambardars from Nimo, Basgo, and Taru recommended keeping these areas within Leh District.
Women representatives emphasized the importance of considering geographical, cultural, and traditional factors in district planning to ensure that no minority community is disadvantaged. They also advocated for involving women representatives in key meetings, reserving seats for women, and expanding educational opportunities in Ladakh.
NDC Chairman Pramod Jain assured stakeholders that the committee's report would be comprehensive, rational, and professionally prepared, taking into account factors such as geography, distance, location, cultural aspects, population, and administrative requirements for district upgrades.
