Programme on Scientific Yak Husbandry held in Hanle Stresses on boosting Yak-based economy in the region
Animal Husbandry Department Leh, in collaboration with the National Research Centre on Yak (NRC-Yak) Dirang conducted a Schedule Tribe component program on Scientific Yak Husbandry at Hanle on November 8.
Yak herders were addressed on the importance of scientific Yak husbandry, diversification, and value addition of yak milk and fiber products for boosting Yak-based economy in the region.
Director ASHD&F, Principal Scientist, Dr. Mehdi and Dr. Paul of NRC-Yak Dirang, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Leh, Sarpanch, Numbardar and Yak herders from Nyoma Block were present.
During the program, Yak herders were also made aware of fodder cultivation and conservation technologies for enhancing Yak production. Further to motivate the young herders Yak Yak-based eco-tourism and organic Yak product marketing were advised with the changing lifestyle and demands of tourism.
The program concluded with the distribution of tarpaulins, solar lamps, gumboots, raincoats, mineral mixtures, and medicines to 100 yak herders from Nyoma block.
