Preparations underway for "Swachhata Diwas celebration" on October 1
Advisor Dr. Pawan Kotwal chaired a preparatory meeting for Swachhata Diwas celebration scheduled for October 1.
Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department delivered a compelling presentation on "Swachhata Hi Seva (Garbage Free India) Ek Tareekh-Ek Ghanta," commemorating the 9th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
In the forthcoming event, citizens from across the nation are called upon to unite in a collective effort to enhance cleanliness. Beginning at 10:00 am on October 1st, a one-hour cleaning drive will be the focal point of this initiative, aiming to bring about visible improvements in hygiene and sanitation. Crucially, ministries and states have been urged to play an active role in this endeavor. They are tasked with identifying suitable field units for the seamless execution of the event and creating corresponding events on the Swachhata Hi Seva portal (https://swachhatahiseva.com). Additionally, they are responsible for developing comprehensive execution plans to ensure the initiative's success.
Efforts are underway to build anticipation and enthusiasm in the lead-up to the main event on October 1st, to be held at Leh Main Market. This event will feature the Swachhata Pledge and a ceremonial flag-off of the cleanliness drive, with the Lieutenant Governor in attendance at 9:50 am.
A key aspect of the preparations involves engaging the community through various initiatives such as community gatherings, multimedia outreach, and the use of eco-friendly branding materials. Online registration drives are also being organised to encourage widespread participation.
Effective solid waste management strategies, including waste segregation and landfill site management, were thoroughly discussed during the meeting to ensure a comprehensive approach to cleanliness.
Across Leh and Kargil, a total of 193 rural and 21 urban activities have been meticulously planned, reflecting the commitment to making this initiative a success at the grassroots level.
Advisor Dr. Pawan Kotwal emphasized the need for a coordinated and collaborative effort, urging active participation from government officials, citizens, and various associations. He encouraged all officers involved to stay updated and collaborate effectively with partner organizations to ensure the event's success.
The meeting was attended by prominent officials, including the Principal Secretary of Housing & Urban Development UT Ladakh, Deputy Commissioners/CEOs of LAHDC Leh & Kargil, Directors of concerned departments, Executive Officers of MC Leh & Kargil, and a representative from PMU, ULB.
