Police launch sports and awareness activities to engage youth in Kargil
District Police Kargil commenced a series of sports events under the Civic Action Programme with the inauguration of an Archery Tournament at the District Police Lines (DPL), Kargil on June 6 in coordination with the Ladakh Archery Association, Kargil Wing.
The inaugural event was attended by DySP Headquarters Anayatullah, JKPS, DySP Tundup Dorjay, KPS, SHO Kargil, representatives of the Ladakh Archery Association, Kargil Wing, and other officials.
A total of 12 teams, including nine men's teams and three women's teams from various sub-divisions and district-level clubs, are participating in the tournament.
Speaking to the media, DySP Headquarters Anayatullah, JKPS, said that under the leadership of the Director General of Police and SSP Kargil Nitin Yadav, District Police Kargil has launched a series of activities under the Civic Action Programme. He informed that various sporting events, including football, volleyball, badminton, taekwondo, and other competitions, will be organized over the coming weeks.
He emphasized that the primary objective of these activities is to engage youth in constructive pursuits, promote physical and mental well-being, strengthen police-public relations, and discourage drug abuse and other harmful practices among young people. He added that the programme was launched with archery, a traditional sport that holds special cultural significance in Kargil.
Addressing the participants, DySP Tundup Dorjay, KPS, said that Ladakh Police has consistently worked to engage youth through recruitment orientation programmes and sports activities. He stated that the department aims to empower young people by providing opportunities for positive engagement, skill development, and leadership.
He further informed that a series of educational and awareness programmes, including quiz and debate competitions, will also be organized under the Civic Action Programme. He expressed hope that the tournament would encourage greater youth participation in sports and other constructive activities across the district.
