Police Commemoration day: L-G Mathur pays tribute to martyrs
Remembering and honoring the brave policemen who laid down their lives, Police Commemoration Day was observed by Ladakh Police on October 21 at Police Line, Choglamsar.
Lieutenant Governor, R K Mathur stated the day as a solemn occasion which is being observed all over the country. “We are feeling very proud to observe the day with proper decorum in UT Ladakh”, he added.
In the year 2019-20, a total of 264 policemen laid down their lives out of which five are from the Ladakh region. R K Mathur suggested commemorating the local martyred policemen by dedicating various establishments such as schools, parks, etc. on their names. He urged IG, Ladakh Police, Satish Khandare, and Advisor Umang Narula to initiate it. He said that the memorial of martyrs in their respective villages will be a tribute and keep the memories alive.
“On this day let's dedicate ourselves to the service of the nation and its people”, he added.
Mathur paid rich tribute to all the brave policemen who lost their lives during various insurgencies such as the Naxalite and terrorist movement and in different situations and emergencies while performing their duty.
IGP, S S Khandare said that the day is observed all over the country to pay tribute to the brave hearts who sacrificed their lives while defending the motherland at Hot Spring in Eastern Ladakh in 1959.
Paying solidarity with the families of martyr’s policemen, a token of respect and encouragement was also presented.
Police Commemoration Day is observed on October 21 every year to pay respects to the 10 policemen who were killed by Chinese troops in an ambush at Hot Springs area, Ladakh on October 21, 1959.
