To promote artificial glaciers and to deal with water scarcity during the summer season, people’s of Khalamarpoo Chumikchan of Sankoo made an artificial glacier.

The project started on 26 November 2021 in collaboration with the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives Ladakh (HIAL). 

The community of the village Khalamarpoo Chumikchan Sankoo is building a gigantic vertical block of ice at Chumikchan. The artificial glacier is still in the making and is hoping to win the ice stupa competition in 2021.
