Orientation program on National Iron Plus Initiative held in Kargil
Health Department Kargil organised a one-day orientation program for Supervisors, ANMS, HLVs, AWWS on National Iron Plus Initiative (NIPI) program on July 4 at Auditorium Hall, Kargil.
NIPI was launched in 2013 as a comprehensive strategy to combat the public health challenge of Iron Deficiency Anaemia prevalent across the life cycle. There are age-specific interventions with Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation and Deworming for improving the hemoglobin levels and reducing the prevalence of anaemia for all age groups, that is children 6-59 months, 5–10 years, adolescent girls and boys (11-19 years), pregnant and lactating women and women in reproductive age group (20 – 49 years).
BMO, Kargil, Dr. Fatima Nissa, gave an introductory speech and spoke about the role of AWWs in the management of anaemia. It was informed that NIPI is aimed to inform and be aware of pregnant women and children and free them from anaemia.
She said its objective is to aware adolescent boys and girls of the correct dietary practices for increasing iron intake.
DHO, Kargil Dr. Rubia gave a detailed presentation on anaemia clinical aspect and management. She explained in detail about anaemia, maternal anaemia, and NIPI Program for children aged 6 months to 5 years.
Later, a question and answer session was also held during which ASHA workers raised different questions which were answered by the resource person Dr. Jaleel.
The next program is scheduled for July 6 for school teachers.
