LEH :
Lack of connectivity and no proper access to the Khachethang village since from 2015 compelled people to walk inside the Council Secretariat with their demand on July 5 in Leh.

The bridge of Khachethang village was washed away in 2015 flood and since then the village has been cut off from the nearby villages.  People are facing hardship in travelling for their day to day work because of the overflow and high level of water in the stream.

Due to the absence of connectivity, an old man died as he was not able to get timely medical assistance. The old man apparently fell down a staircase at his house. He reportedly suffered head injuries and was bleeding. The people had to take a long way to reach the hospital as the bridge was washed away.

Phunchok Stanzin, Councillor Skurbuchan said, “The bridge was washed away in 2015 flood, because of which the people of Khachethang remained cut off with the rest of the villages. The reinstallation of the 20-meter span bridge project is costing in crores but due to limited funds under district plan, the project is still pending. The superstructure of the bridge is being made in Jammu and the council is putting every effort to make the project complete.”

Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC said, “I am well aware of the problem faced by the villagers, the problem is lack of funds but we have not limited ourselves to the fund constraint. An effort has been put to manage the fund problem and we have ordered the superstructure of the bridge.”

Directing, Dorjay Motup, EC Works for  a follow up on the superstructure, CEC said that every effort will be put to solve the issue at the earliest.

The villagers also complained of the lack of facilities in the Skurbuchan hospital. People are facing difficulties due to shortage of doctors, non-availability of the ambulance driver, stretchers and the shortage of medicine.

CEC also assured to take note of the problem related to health and solve it at the earliest.
