Nubra delegation raises development challenges in meeting with Lieutenant Governor
A delegation from the Nubra sub-division, including Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk; Councillor Panamik, Tsering Sandup; Councillor Hunder, Kunzang Lotus; and Councillor Tigger, Rigzen Lundup, met with the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat on June 20.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to the HLG, Dr. Pawan Kotwal; Commissioner/Secretary, Dr. Vasanthakumar N; Commissioner/Secretary to the LG, L Franklin, IAS; and PCCF, Brij Mohan Sharma, IFoS.
Tsering Angchuk ighlighted that development activities in the Nubra sub-division are hindered due to its location within the Karakoram Wildlife Sanctuary, a wildlife-protected area. He pointed out the urgent need for gravel and sand for construction projects, exacerbated by the lack of stone crushers. Additionally, he discussed the logistical challenges faced by residents in transporting construction materials from Leh to Nubra.
In response, Commissioner/Secretary Dr. Vasanthakumar informed the LG and Councillors about the availability of stone crusher plants outside protected areas and emphasized the need for owners to obtain mining permits to operate. He assured that gravel would be accessible for construction once permits are secured.
LG emphasized the necessity of including freight charges in Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and fast-tracking the legalization of stone crusher plants. He instructed Brij Mohan Sharma to organize a meeting with stone crusher plant owners to expedite the application process for mining permissions.
Another delegation, comprising monks from Diskit Monastery met with the Lieutenant Governor, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd).
Tsering Angchuk discussed the pressing issue of drinking water supply at Diskit Monastery. He informed the LG about a survey conducted by a private agency and the preparation of a DPR to address the monastery's water supply needs, including the expenses incurred.
LG assured that the UT Administration is prepared to fund the DPR to ensure monks at Diskit Monastery have access to drinking water. He directed the concerned Secretary to take necessary actions promptly.
