MP Ladakh requests L-G’s intervention in making Ladakh crime & drug-free
MP Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal met the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) on April 3 and discussed issues of drugs and crime.
Jamyang raised several issues and requested HLG’s intervention in making Ladakh a crime-free and drug-free society. He highlighted the recent rape and attempt to murder a young girl in Leh. He said that the incident has sent shockwaves among the people of Ladakh.
MP requested LG to give instructions to concerned officials to initiate necessary actions to make Ladakh a crime-free society. He also requested stringent action against the accused to ensure justice for the victim and her family members. Such action, he said, would set an example of the commitment of the Administration to the safety and protection of its citizens and tourists.
He also highlighted the growing incidents of drug abuse among children and adults. He requested LG’s intervention in preventing drug abuse among the youth of Ladakh. He suggested that a concrete policy and action plan should be formulated by the Administration along with the Hill Councils, social organisations, and experts to prevent drug abuse among children and adults.
He also suggested carrying out various drives such as community mobilization, family-based prevention programmes, sensitization programmes on drug abuse for youth and parents, spreading awareness on resisting peer pressure to consume drugs, and the roles of teachers and schools in all these aspects.
MP emphasised the need for establishing a Drug De-addiction Center for the rehabilitation of people involved in drug and alcohol abuse. The Drug De-addiction Center would facilitate in providing necessary treatment and support to the needy, he said.
LG assured to look into the matter.
