KARGIL :
MLA Zanskar Aga Syed Baqir Razvi on February 13 urged upon the State Government to give a boost to health infrastructure in Ladakh region.

In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the MLA has expressed the need to establish a Medical College in Kargil District keeping in view its remoteness and isolation from the outside world for almost 6 months a year.

The MLA expressed hope that the setting up of a medical college in the region would, on the one hand, provide better medicare facilities to the people at their doorsteps and would also help in overcoming the shortage of specialists and doctors in the region who otherwise are quite reluctant to serve here due to harsh climatic conditions.

Aga Baqir has further stated that Ladakh region is now gradually emerging as a favorite tourist destination worldwide and the establishment of a state of the art medical college in the region is the need of the hour adding that this step would further promote tourism in the area.

The MLA further stated that Ladakh is a sparsely populated region has serene, pollution free and uncongested spaces and would be an ideal location for the establishment of a state of the art medical college in the country.

He said that the Government needs to actively consider a medical college for Ladakh as has been done in the case of Rajouri and Baramullah.

The MLA expressed hope that the LAHDC Kargil will provide suitable land for the establishment of a medical college in the district.
