Mission Shakti launches 15-day driving training programme for women in Leh
The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under Mission Shakti, Leh, has launched a 15-day driving training programme starting from February 9. The initiative aims to empower 20 women beneficiaries belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category of the district.
In view of the large number of applications received and the limited training capacity, the programme is being conducted in two batches. The training focuses on imparting Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) driving skills to enhance women’s mobility, confidence, and employability.
The programme is being conducted at the Ladakh Women Driving Institute, where training is imparted by a woman instructor, Tsering Angmo. The initiative serves as a strong example of women empowering women, promoting skill development and self-reliance.
The programme aligns with the broader objectives of Mission Shakti, including enhancing women’s safety, independence, and active participation in society.
District Coordinator, DHEW Leh, Diskit Ladol, while interacting with the beneficiaries, encouraged them to make the best use of the training opportunity. She emphasised that acquiring driving skills not only improves mobility but also strengthens women’s empowerment by fostering self-confidence, independence, and livelihood opportunities. She added that such initiatives play a vital role in enabling women to become self-reliant and active contributors to society.
