Menstrual health awareness programme held at CHC Sankoo; 260 menstrual cups distributed
An awareness programme on menstrual health and hygiene management, along with sensitisation on the use of menstrual cups, was held at the Conference Hall of Community Health Centre (CHC) Sankoo on February 23.
The programme was organised by Baqirya Health Care & Research Centre in collaboration with the Block Medical Officer (BMO), Sankoo.
The event was conducted under the leadership of Vice President of BHC&RC, Dr. Nasreen Fatima, who addressed participants on the importance of menstrual health, personal hygiene, and breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation. She highlighted the advantages of menstrual cups, including their reusability, environmental sustainability, and cost-effectiveness, while also clarifying common myths and addressing concerns regarding their safe usage.
Block Medical Officer Sankoo, Dr. Zahida Khatun, outlined the objectives of the programme and appreciated the initiative taken by BHC&RC Kargil in supporting healthcare workers.
On the occasion, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, ANMs, CHOs, and female staff of CHC Sankoo were provided comprehensive awareness and education on various aspects of menstrual health and hygiene.
The main resource person for the programme was Dr. Rubiya Banoo, Consultant Gynaecologist, who delivered an informative session on menstrual hygiene management. She explained the safe usage, benefits, and maintenance of menstrual cups, emphasising the importance of proper menstrual hygiene and addressing the social challenges faced by women during menstruation.
Zakiya Banoo, CHO, and Kaneez Sakina, LHV from the MCH Section, also attended the programme and expressed their support for initiatives aimed at improving women’s health and hygiene standards in the region.
During the programme, more than 260 menstrual cups were distributed among ASHAs, ANMs, CHOs, and female staff of CHC Sankoo by BHC&RC Kargil.
In her concluding remarks, Dr. Nasreen Fatima thanked the volunteers of Baqirya Health Care & Research Centre Kargil, the Block Medical Officer, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, CHOs, ANMs, and the female staff of CHC Sankoo for their cooperation and support in successfully organising the event.
