Meeting held to implement Mission Organic Development Initiative schemes in Leh district

To gear up agriculture and allied departments for implementation of Mission Organic Development Initiative (MODI) schemes in Leh district from this agriculture season, a meeting was convened by Phunchok Stanzin, EC Agriculture on February 7 at Council Secretariat.
The meeting was attended by Tarvinder Singh, Director Horticulture and Floriculture Ladakh; Dr. Tsering Stobdan, Sr. Scientist DIHAR, Leh; Tashi Tsetan, Chief Agriculture Officer, Leh; Tsewang Phuntsog, Chief Horticulture Officer Leh and Tsering Dorjey, Deputy Director Command Area.
Phunchok said that the policy document of MODI prepared by Hill Council, Leh has already come into shape of Action Plan Book and is ready to get the nod from GoI. He said that ₹ 500 crores under MODI is proposed for UT Ladakh and both Leh and Kargil district will get ₹ 250 crores each if approved.
Constitution of Apex Committee at UT level, Technical Advisory Committee and District Level Executive Committee at the district level for implementation and monitoring of MODI schemes in Ladakh was discussed in the meeting.
EC Phunchok directed officers to mobilize their field staff at village level and execute possible works in advance in line with MODI Action Plan Book.
In March 2019, the Mission Organic Development Initiative of Ladakh was initiated by Hill Council, Leh which aim at converting Leh into an organic district by 2025. It was designed by Study Committee of Hill Council Leh headed by Dr. Stoban Sr. Scientist DIHAR, Leh. An exposure tour to Sikkim and other states known for organic farming was also organised and research work through a book having detailed policy, strategy and action plan under MODI was also compiled.
