Looms of Ladakh is an initiative of DC, Leh which was formed two months back with a vision to make all the self-helps groups of women in Leh self-sustainable.

Under the banner of ‘Looms of Ladakh’ Pashmina products of Ladakh have been showcased in an exhibition in Gujarat which was witnessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Smriti Irani, Minister for Textiles, Govt. of India.

Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC highly applauded the hard work of women artisans in producing quality handloom products and achieving a good result in a very short period of time.

Stressing on continuous improvements in the standard of their products, he cautioned them not to be complacent at any time and hoped that more and more women artisans across Ladakh will join “Looms of Ladakh” which will further strengthen this society.

He appreciated DC Leh for his innovative idea to form this cooperative society and making it realistic, he said that now the onus is on every member especially upon the CEO and other leaders of the society to mention the pace of business, as govt. offices and officials associated with this project will not remain with them in future.

Assuring every possible support from Hill Council in making this project more successful, Dr. Dawa suggested Looms of Ladakh to procure raw pashmina from All Changthang Pashmina Growers Cooperative Society, Leh.

Prasanna Ramaswamy G , Deputy Commissioner, Leh said that at present there are only eight progressive women self-help groups working under this apex body and gradually more and more members will join this cooperative movement covering entire Ladakh so that Looms of Ladakh could handle huge demands and consignments in future.
