LG Mathur meets Minister of Tribal Affairs, discusses various schemes for Ladakh
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur met Minister of Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda on May 4 in New Delhi.
Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Anil Kumar Jha and Chairman, TRIFED, Ramsinh Rathwa were present in the meeting.
LG Mathur discussed various schemes of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs being implemented for the welfare and development of the Scheduled Tribe community in Ladakh. He suggested organising an international archery event in collaboration with countries where traditional archery is in practice.
Chairman of Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED), Ramsinh Rathwa discussed increasing economic activities for the socio-economic development of the people of Ladakh. He informed about the plan to organise a Festival in Ladakh involving other states with assistance from TRIFED. He also discussed the strategies for marketing Ladakhi products.
LG Mathur also requested assistance in promoting pashmina and the development of infrastructure for nomads in border areas. He also requested professional guidance, skill development training, testing and treatment of textile products and the need for international certification for pashmina products from Ladakh.
Minister of Tribal Affairs advised that agencies such as Tata Trusts can assist in conducting a comprehensive mapping and planning for the development of the pashmina sector of Ladakh.
