LG Mathur discusses road/tunnel development projects in Ladakh
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur met Minister for Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Nitin Gadkari, in New Delhi on September 15 and discussed road/tunnel development projects in Ladakh.
LG Mathur discussed the possibility of designing around 80 bridges in Ladakh. He stated that UT Ladakh Administration can recommend where to install these bridges. He emphasised the need for tunnels in Ladakh, including at Namkila and Fotu-la and stressed the need for aligning the Tanglang-la Pass and the improvement of the Manali-Darcha-Leh Road.
LG Mathur apprised of the efforts being made to promote electric and hydrogen-run vehicles in Ladakh. He informed that solar energy can be used for electrifying homes and operating electric appliances.
Minister for Road Transport & Highways suggested that ropeways and funicular railways combined with hydropower may be developed in Ladakh. He further suggested that a pilot project on funicular railways can be set up in Ladakh. He stated that tourist spots with common facilities along with the land may be identified and developed at Zoji-la Pass to create employment opportunities.
