LEHO completes 25 years of social work, celebrates Silver Jubilee

On completing 25 years of social work in Ladakh, Ladakh Environment and Health Organisation (LEHO), an NGO celebrated Silver Jubilee on July 2 at LEHO office complex in Leh.
LEHO was established on July 1, 1991, with an aim to work on the issues of sustainable development, ecology and health.
Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC, chief guest apprises LEHO for adopting Takmachik village an organic farming village. He further added that all the villages in Ladakh should go for organic farming and Hill Council will provide all the necessary support.
Dr. Mohammad Deen, President LEHO said that there are many renowned NGOs who are working for the development of Ladakh region in different fields. Sharing about the success greenhouse implementation in Ladakh, he said that in the 1990s there used to have single walled greenhouses in which cultivation is not up to mark.
However, with the introduction of double walled greenhouses, the cultivation of the vegetables reached to the commercial level and has met the large market demand.
Secondly, he talked about the Passive solar house, a suitable building in the region like Ladakh. He informed that LEHO has constructed 500 passive houses for promoting ecological and environment-friendly community based on local resources.
Tashi Thokmet, LEHO, Deputy Director sharing the contributions made by LEHO in past 25 years, said that in Umla village is adopted for integrated sustainable development. From 1996 to 2005, ecological farming and integrated development approach were demonstrated in 46 villages.
Dr Vandana Shiva, Navdanya, MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora also graced the occasion. Later cultural shows were also performed.
