Legal awareness program on Fundamental Rights and Duties held in Leh
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Leh, in collaboration with the Central Institute for Buddhist Studies (CIBS), organized a comprehensive one-day legal awareness program on Fundamental Rights and Duties on June 11 at the Auditorium Hall of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Leh.
The program aimed to educate participants about the Fundamental Rights and Duties guaranteed under the Indian Constitution.
Supreme Court Judge Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai graced the event as the chief guest, alongside High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Justice Tashi Rabstan, who served as the guest of honor.
Advisor Dr. Pawan Kotwal and Secretary of the Law Department, UT Ladakh Michael D’Souza, Vice-Chancellor of CIBS, Leh, Rajesh Ranjan, District Magistrate of Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, Member Secretary of Ladakh Legal Services Authority, Spalzes Angmo, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Leh, Tsewang Phuntsog, Secretary of DLSA Leh, Phuntsog Angmo, Special Judicial Mobile Magistrate of Leh, Chemit Yurgyal, Senior Superintendent of Police of Leh, Shruti Arora, Administrative Officer of CIBS Leh, President of Bar Association Leh, Senior Prosecuting Officer, CIBS students, Religious Heads, and other dignitaries were also present.
Advisor UT Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, highlighted the historical evolution of Fundamental Rights and Duties and emphasized the citizens' privilege under the Indian Constitution. He commended the people of Ladakh for their steadfast commitment to fulfilling their duties, referencing their contributions during the Kargil War.
Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai drew parallels between Lord Buddha’s teachings and the Indian Constitution, stressing that both Rights and Duties reflect Buddha's principles. He emphasized the importance of adhering to these rights and duties diligently.
Praising the educational standards imparted by CIBS, Justice Bhushan acknowledged the institution's role in shaping students' knowledge. He called upon every citizen to actively contribute to the nation's development by upholding their rights and duties.
Member Secretary of Ladakh Legal Services Authority, Spalzes Angmo, expressed gratitude to all participants, including officials, students, and police personnel, for their enthusiastic involvement, which contributed to the event's success.
