Beema :
Ladakh Ecological Development Group ( LEDeG) Leh visited Beema on 11 December and organized a relief camp for the recent flood affected victims.
EC work Dorjay Motup was present during the camp to give away the relief items to the victims. The items mainly included the kitchenware materials.
Dorjey Motup spoke to the nine families saying that the council will do everything in their power to bring their life back to normal. He appreciated LEDeG Leh for their help and contribution to the families of Beema. He also praised them for having given such service during the aftermath of previous year floods.
Lobzang Tsultim, Executive Director LEDeG thanked Dorjey Motup for the relief materials. He said that after the floods in summer they had discussed with the Councillor of Skurbuchan as to what items are needed and so accordingly they have planned, bought and now they are distributing it to the financially weak families of Beema.
On having spoken to Sarpanch Tashi Tsering, he informed that from 22nd July to 3rd August the area was hit with floods almost 20 times. He added that 9 families completely lost their home and property. He also mentioned that they receive some relief and rations from the government along with some cash amount of ₹ 20,000 but that is not enough for the amount of damage that has happened. He added that they are scared that if these waters are not drained out until next summer then it will become more dangerous and difficult for the families who have already lost so much. He also mentioned that fortunately this year’s flood did not cause casualties to life but it was worse than the floods of 2006 and 2010.
Phunstok Stanzin, Councillor Skurbuchan and Sonam Chosjor, Skurbuchan Block Development Officer were also present during the event.
