LAHDC Leh pays tribute to Late Scholar Prof. (Dr.) Jamyang Gyaltsen

A condolence prayer was held on January 4 in the Conference Hall of the Council Secretariat, LAHDC Leh, to honor the memory of the late Prof. (Dr.) Jamyang Gyaltsen, a distinguished scholar of Ladakh renowned for his extensive contributions to Ladakh’s cultural heritage, Buddhist studies, and literature.

Organized as a tribute to the revered scholar, also known as Lotsava, the event saw heartfelt floral offerings and homages to his invaluable legacy.
Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk, Executive Councillors Stanzin Chosphel and Ghulam Mehdi, Councillors, Ladakh Cultural Forum President Dr. Sonam Wangchuk, Vice President Dorjey Stakmo, members of the forum, writer and historian Mohammad Sadiq Hardasi, and LAHDC staff attended the event to reflect on Prof. Gyaltsen’s extraordinary contributions.

Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk emphasized the profound influence of Prof. Gyaltsen’s work on Ladakh’s intellectual and cultural heritage. He acknowledged the late scholar’s unwavering dedication to preserving Ladakh’s traditions through his literary and academic endeavors. Angchuk also proposed the compilation and publication of Dr. Gyaltsen’s biography as a valuable resource for researchers, students, and the broader community.

Nominated Councillor for Sangha, Ven. Konchok Tsepel, delivered a heartfelt speech on Dr. Gyaltsen’s academic achievements. He praised the scholar’s monumental contributions to Buddhist studies, including his numerous published books and research papers. Ven. Tsepel highlighted Dr. Gyaltsen’s efforts in documenting and safeguarding Ladakh’s linguistic and cultural richness, describing them as invaluable. He affirmed that Dr. Gyaltsen’s legacy would inspire future generations of scholars and students.

The passing of Prof. (Dr.) Jamyang Gyaltsen marks a significant loss to the academic and cultural fabric of Ladakh. His groundbreaking work in literature, Buddhist studies, and cultural preservation will continue to resonate and serve as a guiding light for years to come.
