Ladakh Traffic Police to use Radar Speed Gun to check speeding
Traffic Police Ladakh under the supervision of PHQ, Ladakh launched Radar Speed Gun to check the menace of overspeeding and rash driving on April 20.
SP Traffic Ladakh, Mohd. Rafi Giri-JKPS; DySP Traffic Leh, Rigzin Sandup-JKP; DTI Leh, Inspector Rigzin, Flying Squad in charge Inspector Raja Abdhulla, SOs of traffic, and other officers/officials of the traffic wing were present.
The overspeeding challans were carried on by traffic police by modern digital Radar Speed Gun at Airport Road.
SP Traffic Ladakh, Mohd. Rafi Giri said that the present launch is a part of already initiated traffic reform initiatives which are being implemented on the ground under the direct supervision and control of Chief of Ladakh Police, ADGP, S.S Khandare-IPS, and guidance of DIG Ladakh Range, B.S Tuti-IPS.
He said that in the recent past people-friendly e-challaning was incorporated by traffic police which is yielding good results and is being appreciated by the public. He said that one of the major reasons for accidents on the roads of the area has been overspeeding and rash driving and to curb the same we needed modern Radar Speed Gun which records the speed of the vehicles while plying which is used as strong evidence to challan the offender in the court of law.
SP Traffic also informed that after the new Motor Vehicles Amendment Act, 2019 punishment and a fine of different offenses has been increased to control accidents and loss of precious lives on the road. He said that Radar Speed Gun would prove a strong deterrent to check and curb rash driving and overspeeding.
Sharing further plans, he said that Ladakh Police in the coming months has various plans and proposals for a better traffic system. A traffic study of Leh and Kargil is being carried on through expert traffic engineers and also modern traffic gadgets are being procured, he added.
DySP Traffic Leh, Rigzin Sandup requested people to cooperate with traffic police while obeying traffic rules for a better traffic system in both Leh and Kargil districts.
Traffic police are taking all necessary steps to improve and make the traffic system of Ladakh better.
